Chemical Outlook - Independent Industry Information for Chemicals Makers and Users Smart Chemicals Forum - Online Networking for Industry Executives
To the Editor,
My views might not be considered neutral, with OxyChem's equity participation in Envera, but "Hub-to-Hub" connectivity was always in Envera's plans. As a founding Envera member and as an early adopter of B2B connectivity utilizing XML (in production since November 1999) OxyChem strongly endorses the need for "Hub-to-Hub" connectivity, both inter- and intra-Industry. Consider the real flywheel effects of connecting two hubs within the Chemical sector. In addition here are four thoughts on why this would be a positive step:

1) It is good for industry and in line with the Elemica and Envera vision of creating widespread connectivity within the Chemical Industry.

2) It would provide for proof of concept of "Hub-to-Hub" connectivity, which again is in the best interests of the industry because eventually the chemical industry will need to connect to automotive and consumer products and petrochem hubs in order to conduct business with members of the those hubs.

3) Provides potential for accelerated learning among members of the chemical industry.

4) eBusiness value creation within the industry is a function of a wide, large network of companies who can conduct business electronically through the one-to-many concept (i.e., we connect once and can connect to anyone else hooked up to the network).

Let's create real value for our companies and shareholders and just get on with it!
