Solvay confirms Elemica transactions
BRUSSELS (June 12, 2001) -- Solvay (www.solvay.com) has announced the completion of contract business using enterprise resource resource planning (ERP) connections on Elemica (www.elemica.com), an online hub for the contract buying and selling of chemicals.
Out 22 Elemica founding members, Solvay said that BASF, The Dow Chemical Company, DSM and Solvay now have connections through Elemica that are fully operational. Last weekend, in the framework of these first transactions, Solvay said, it sold soda ash to Dow. Additional Elemica member companies are carrying out tests that will lead to transacting business on the network, Solvay said.

Solvay said it is in contact with Ciba Specialty Chemicals and other companies to prepare future transactions through Elemica.

"We are proud to be part of Elemica's first real transactions," said Pierre Winant, e-business Director at Solvay. "Intense, open cooperation with Elemica and the other founding members made this achievement possible. As well, Solvay is reaping the benefits of its consistent e-business policy, its commitment in favor of Elemica and its early adoption of the appropriate connectivity tools."

"Today we passed a major milestone on the road to success for Elemica," said Kent Dolby, Elemica President and CEO. "The Elemica Connected Solution provides the ERP connectivity that is the core of our network. At this moment, Elemica is working with many companies and moving rapidly toward fulfilling our vision of an efficient, global connected network for our members, for their customers and suppliers and for the entire chemical industry."
