NanoGram Appoints Vice President
FREMONT, Calif. --Sept. 21, 2001--Optical materials technologist NanoGram Corporation announced the appointment of David F. Kleinsmith to the newly created position of vice president of intellectual property and director of legal affairs. Kleinsmith will be responsible for the strategic development and protection of the company's intellectual property portfolio in nanomaterials-based optical and electronic applications and solutions.

"Kleinsmith's broad experience in patent prosecution, enforcement and licensing, coupled with his excellent depth of technical knowledge, are key capabilities in our rapidly growing company," explained Tim Jenks, NanoGram's president and chief executive officer. "The materials and process solutions we're developing for optical and electronic customer's will be well-served under Kleinsmith's stewardship."

Kleinsmith was most recently an IP attorney at Brobeck Phleger Harrison, LLP, working with and counseling a variety of technology companies on the development, protection and commercialization of their intellectual property. Previously, he worked at Gray Care Ware Freidenrich, LLP, counseling technology companies in their intellectual property development, commercialization and enforcement efforts, and at Idea Law & Consulting Group, an intellectual property consulting firm Kleinsmith founded to service IP needs of newly formed technology companies.

Kleinsmith holds a B.S. in Chemistry and a M.A. in Economics from the University of California, Berkeley, and a J.D. from the University of Michigan.

Eastman Expects Lower Second-Quarter Earnings
KINGSPORT, Tenn.-- July 2, 2001--Eastman Chemical Company announced today that it anticipates earnings for second quarter 2001 will be lower than the estimate given in its April 26, 2001, first-quarter earnings release and its Form 10-Q filing but higher than first-quarter earnings of $0.48 per diluted share.
