Mike Clarke Named President of Vulcan's Midsouth Division
BIRMINGHAM, Ala.--Nov. 8, 2001--Vulcan Materials Company announced today that Sherrod B. "Mike" Clarke, Jr., (49) has been appointed President of the Company's Midsouth Division, which has its headquarters in Knoxville, Tennessee. Mr. Clarke, who joined Vulcan in 1979, most recently served as Vice President and General Manager of western Tennessee. Mr. Clarke is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a CPA. The appointment is effective December 1, 2001.
According to Donald M. James, Vulcan's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, "Mike Clarke brings a strong background to his new job as Midsouth Division President. In both corporate and division assignments, Mike has demonstrated his ability to manage the various aspects of our business. I'm confident that Mike will lead our Midsouth Division to continuing success." Mr. Clarke succeeds Daniel J. Leemon, who will serve as Chairman of Vulcan's Midsouth and Midwest Divisions. Vulcan Materials Company, an S&P 500 company, is a producer of industrial materials with significant positions in two industries. It is the nation's foremost producer of construction aggregates, a major producer of other construction materials, and a leading chemicals manufacturer, supplying chloralkali and other industrial chemicals.
