Bayer AG, Degussa automate supply chain activity through Elemica
WAYNE, Pennsylvania (November 20, 2002) -- Elemica, a transaction hub for buyers and sellers of chemicals and related products, says it has executed the first electronic transactions for Bayer AG and Degussa with a leading global tire manufacturing customer.
Elemica says its Connected and Supply Chain Solutions enable members to achieve reductions in the manual processes and potential errors associated with order processing, while facilitating "work-in-process" inventory reductions. Chemical industry members are using Elemica to trade among themselves and well as with members of other industries, as in the case of Bayer AG and Degussa, through Elemica's links to similar hubs in related fields.
"The tire industry is a key market for our business unit," said Thomas Ruppersberg, Director e-Business and SCM at Degussa AG Advanced Fillers & Pigments. "The hub-to-hub connection enables us now to interact electronically with these global customers, a big step forward to generate mutual benefit from supply chain collaboration and integration." Udo Lindemann, Global eBusiness Project, Bayer Rubber Business Group, agrees. "Elemica´s hub-to-hub relationship now enables Bayer to link our supply chain with the supply chains of multiple customers in the tire and rubber industry through one industry connection." From the chemical buyer's perspective, the ability to execute and ensure the touchless conversion of confirmed and forecasted demand into orders leveraging Elemica's Connected and Supply Chain Solutions gives purchasers access to a more complete set of business processes, including automated order confirmations, ship notices and invoices. Elemica did not identify the tire company involved, or the industry hub it is using to complete the Bayer AG and Degussa connections.
