Analyst firm predicts large market for Web Services management
WALTHAM, Massachusetts (November 19, 2002) --Web Services management is the second leading roadblock to Web Services adoption after security, according to a report released today by ZapThink, an XML and Web Services-focused industry analyst group.
Going beyond traditional systems management, Web Services management enables companies to build service-oriented architectures, which ZapThink believes are the key to business agility and competitiveness in the future. The ZapThink report, "Service-Oriented Management: How Web Services are the Key to the Service-Oriented Architecture," makes the connection between managing Web Services and building flexible, business-oriented architectures by identifying technologies and trends for the Web Services management market through the year 2007.
"Web Services management solutions bridge the gap between Web Services and the underlying technology that they run on," said Jason Bloomberg, Senior Analyst at ZapThink. "As a result, many emerging vendors are building Web Services management products. However, the window of opportunity for these smaller companies is no more than two years, at which time large systems management vendors will come to dominate the market." The report also found that the market for Web Services management is expected to grow from $30 million in 2002 to $9.2 billion by 2007. That same year, the report projects that 60% of the total systems management market will consist of large vendors, and a full 75% of the systems management market will offer Web Services management capabilities. The report concludes that large vendors will begin to dominate the Web Services market in mid-2004, with market share for smaller Web Services management vendors peaking in 2005. Web Services management functionality falls into five categories: system management, lifecycle management, business management, security management, and service-oriented architecture enablement. The report identifies key Web Services management technologies, standards, and vendor solutions. In addition, the report analyzes the current state of the market, future market trends and sizing, points out areas of overlap, identifying which vendors have the best chances for success, and competitive analysis.
