Airgas Launches New Line-up of Gold Gas Premium Shielding Gases
RADNOR, Pa.--Oct. 29, 2002--Airgas, Inc. today announced a new improved line-up of the Airgas Gold Gas® premium shielding gases. It will launch the new line-up with product demonstrations at FABTECH International 2002, North America's largest annual metal forming and fabricating event, taking place October 29-31, 2002 at the International Exposition (I-X) Center, Cleveland, Ohio.

Shielding gases are used in welding applications to shield, or provide the best atmosphere for, the molten metal during the welding process. The new line up simplifies the process of finding the right shielding gas to meet the requirements of all MIG, TIG, flux-cored, and robotic applications.

"Shielding gases have a major impact on the productivity of the welder," said Thomas S. Thoman, vice president - gases for Airgas, Inc. "Choosing the right shielding gas will improve welding quality and speed, resulting in greater productivity and a positive impact on the bottom line. Our nationwide team of welding process specialists, including certified welding inspectors, will help customers find the right mix for their particular application."

The Airgas Gold Gas® shielding gas product line now consists of seven precision blends of argon-based gas mixtures: · SteelMIX® Extra - an excellent three-part mix for all steel applications-- solid, cored and metal-cored wires. · SteelMIX® 3 - a low-energy, three-part mix ideal for thinner gauge steel. · SteelMIX® - a two component mix that will spray transfer and outperform traditional C25 while offering higher energy than C10 for better penetration in short arc transfer. · StainMIX(TM)3 - an excellent three-part mix for stainless steel · StainMIX(TM)- a versatile, two-component pulse gas · StainMIX(TM) TIG - an excellent two-part gas mix for all 300-grade Austenetic stainless TIG applications. · AluMIX(TM)- an excellent mix for all aluminum applications on 1/8" and thicker material. Much better than straight argon on oxidized aluminum

Shielding gases are the smallest cost of a weld. Yet selecting the right mix can offer proven productivity and performance benefits for labor and material costs, the largest cost factors. When used in the correct environment and for the correct application, these mixtures lead to increased welding speed, fewer rejects, less rework, less post-weld clean up and higher production at a lower cost.
